Known for serving the "niche within a niche" of the anime market with a careful selection of titles lovingly handled, AnimEigo have also licensed some classsic samurai films. AnimEigo discs, including their "hybrid" format releases (dubbed on one side and subtitled on the other), are almost all CLV, and due to issues regarding subtitle timing the white-flagging of the few CAV sides is irregular. Some of their early releases also suffer from inconsistent black levels and picture noise. Otherwise, there are few issues with their product: pressings (almost all 3M) are typically clean, close attention is paid to audio and video quality, liner notes and chapter marking tend to be thorough, and there is a real effort to include "extras" of the type so often unavailable outside Japan.
